Questions and Answers
What is a Modern-Classic Aufguss?
A 12–15 minute ritual in which water or ice enriched with essential oils is vaporised on the stones to a chosen soundtrack. Heat is distributed with classic towel-waving techniques; light choreography is permitted if it supports the music and does not overshadow effective air movement.
Who May Compete
Entrants must be employed as Masters of Aufguss in a spa, hold a recognised MoA certificate, or have placed in a previous Aufguss contest. Competitors qualify via national events and may represent only one country across all Aufguss WM competitions.
Solo Performance, Personal Theme
Every Aufguss is performed solo before guests and an expert jury. The theme is entirely up to the competitor but must be declared during registration.
Timing at a Glance
- Total length: 12–15 minutes (14 minutes is ideal).
- Welcome & introduction: maximum 90 seconds to present the theme, oils, and safety notes.
- The clock starts when the MoA enters the sauna and stops on exit.
Pure Ingredients
Only ice or water blended with essential oils may be used. Smoke preparations are reserved for other formats. Competitors bring their own oils and towels; the host supplies buckets, ladles, water, and ice.
Dress Code & Tools
Neutral sauna clothing, pestemal, or kilt is required; costumes and synthetic outfits are not allowed. A hand-held fan may be used for up to two minutes and is judged on heat distribution and technique.
How Performances Are Scored
A jury of three to five members evaluates professionalism, heat management, waving skill, fragrance choice and dosage, theme execution, and overall atmosphere. A perfect score is 100 points.
Path to the Finals
Each nation is granted one place in the final round. To advance, a competitor must earn at least half of the possible points in qualifying. The organising host holds one wild-card entry.
Media & Promotion
By entering, participants grant permission for photos and video captured during the event to be used for promotional purposes on the competition’s channels.
Finals
The finals of Modern Classic Cup will take place from the 1h until the 4th of October2025 in Farris Bad, Larvik, Norway.
